Human bones found in canal linked to Bangladesh MP murder

Investigators from West Bengal’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have recovered bones, suspected to be human, from the bank of a canal in North 24 Parganas. The bones were discovered on Sunday morning during the probe into the murder of Bangladesh MP Md Anwarul Azim Anar. "We have recovered some bones. Prima facie it appears to be human bones. We are sending them for forensic analysis," stated AK Chaturvedi, Inspector General of Police (IG), CID.

The bones were found about 15 km from the New Town apartment where the MP was allegedly murdered and dismembered. CID officials revealed that the recovery followed a two-week search based on information from accused Jihad Hawaldar, who was arrested on May 23. Hawaldar, a butcher from Mumbai, is said to have dismembered the MP's body, disposing of flesh in a commode and bones in the canal. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, but the alleged mastermind, Aktaruzzaman Shahin, remains at large and is believed to have fled to the US.
